Cancer stem cells are notorious for resisting chemotherapy and persisting in the body, leading to cancer recurrence and metastasis. Early research has shown very promising results with non-toxic natural compounds. More funding is needed to confirm the benefits on breast cancer stem cells.

In 2020, an estimated 2.3 million new cases of breast cancer were diagnosed worldwide, accounting for about 1 in 4 cancer diagnoses in women.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, accounting for approximately 15% of all cancer deaths among women. In 2020, an estimated 685,000 women died from breast cancer worldwide. Breast cancer is much less common in men than in women, but it can still occur, with an estimated 2,650 new cases of invasive breast cancer in men in 2021 in the United States.
While those numbers might seem daunting, The Beljanski Foundation has already established a record of achievements. The foundation has collaborated with several academic institutions to further research on natural compounds and their potential anti-cancer properties. This has led to the publication of several peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals, on many cancer cell lines, including prostate, ovaries, pancreatic, and breast cancer.

The foundation has also conducted research on the role of cancer stem cells in tumor growth and progression, by identifying natural compounds that can inhibit the growth and self-renewal of cancer stem cells, potentially reducing the risk of cancer recurrence.

Breast cancer stem cell research is crucially important because breast cancer stem cells are thought to be responsible for the recurrence and metastasis of breast cancer. Breast cancer stem cells are a small subset of cells within a breast tumor that have the ability to self-renew and differentiate into various cell types that make up the tumor.

Unlike other cancer cells, which can be killed by chemotherapy and radiation therapy, breast cancer stem cells have the ability to survive and become resistant to these treatments, leading to tumor regrowth and metastasis.

Therefore, understanding the biology and behavior of breast cancer stem cells is essential for the development of more effective breast cancer treatments. By targeting breast cancer stem cells specifically, it may be possible to prevent tumor recurrence and metastasis, leading to improved outcomes for breast cancer patients.

Additionally, research on breast cancer stem cells may help identify new biomarkers for early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer, as well as potential targets for personalized therapies tailored to the individual patient’s tumor characteristics.

Overall, breast cancer stem cell research is essential for improving our understanding of breast cancer and developing more effective treatments that can ultimately save lives.

The Beljanski Foundation has already partnered with Kansas University Medical Center twice on the crucial topic of cancer stem cells, leading to two peer-reviewed publications:

“Extract of the Medicinal Plant Pao Pereira Inhibits Pancreatic Cancer Stem-Like Cell In Vitro and In Vivo.” The study was published in the journal Integrative Cancer Therapies in July 2018. https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/1534735418786027

“Inhibition of pancreatic cancer stem cells by Rauwolfia vomitoria extract.” The study was published in the journal Oncology Reports in December 2018. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30272287/

The studies aimed to investigate the potential of the Rauwolfia vomitoria and Pao pereira extracts in inhibiting pancreatic cancer stem cells. The authors found that the extracts reduced the proliferation and self-renewal ability of pancreatic cancer stem-like cells and decreased the growth of pancreatic tumors in mouse models.

These findings suggest the Pao pereira and Rauwolfia vomitoria extracts may both represent potential therapeutic agents for the treatment of pancreatic cancer by targeting cancer stem cells. However, further research is needed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of this approach in clinical trials and to understand its potential limitations and side effects.

It would be, therefore, extremely valuable to see if those results could be reproduced and extended to breast cancer stem cells. While this research can be challenging, it is crucial to advancing our understanding of breast cancer and developing new therapies for this disease.  The Beljanski Foundation has a goal to raise $240,000 dollars for funding its breast cancer stem cells research program.

Mirko Beljanski was a Serbian-French scientist who dedicated his life to the study of natural compounds and their potential to treat cancer. He was a visionary researcher and a pioneer in the field of alternative medicine, with a profound understanding of the complex relationship between the body and the natural world.

Beljanski’s work was born out of his belief that the natural world held the key to healing the human body, and that by unlocking the secrets of nature, we could unlock new treatments for cancer. He spent decades conducting groundbreaking research on natural compounds found in plants, including Pao pereira and Rauwolfia vomitoria, which he believed had the potential to inhibit cancer cell growth.

Despite facing opposition and skepticism from some in the scientific community, Beljanski remained steadfast in his dedication to his research. He never wavered in his belief that natural compounds held the key to treating cancer and improving patient outcomes.

Beljanski’s legacy lives on through the work of the Beljanski Foundation, which continues to build on his research and explore the potential of natural compounds in the fight against cancer. His life and work serve as an inspiration to all those who believe in the power of nature to heal and transform our world.

Philanthropy to support cancer research by The Beljanski Foundation is critically important for several reasons:

  1. Funding for cancer research: Your support provides much-needed funding for cancer research, which is essential for developing new treatments and improving patient outcomes. With government funding for cancer research often limited, philanthropic donations are often the primary source of funding for many research projects.
  2. Innovation: Donations to The Beljanski Foundation will support innovative research projects that may not be able to secure funding from traditional sources. These projects may have the potential to lead to breakthrough discoveries that could transform cancer treatment and care.
  3. Accelerating progress: Funding helps to accelerate progress in cancer research by allowing collaborations between researchers and institutions, and other programs that can help move promising research forward more quickly.
  4. Public awareness: Philanthropy can also help to raise public awareness about cancer and the importance of supporting research efforts. By supporting cancer research initiatives, donors can help to build momentum for the fight against cancer, inspiring others to get involved and make a difference.

Overall, philanthropy plays a vital role in supporting cancer research and improving patient outcomes. Without philanthropic support, many important research projects may not be able to move forward, and cancer patients may not have access to the support and resources they need to cope with their illnesses.
